WhatsApp released its monthly India compliance report covering the period from May 1 to May 31, 2023, as per the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. The report provides insights into user grievances received in India and accounts that violated the country's laws.
Throughout May, the platform received 3,912 reports regarding grievances, including "ban appeals." Among these reports, the company addressed 297 cases and implemented appropriate actions, as outlined in the report.
WhatsApp's abuse detection system operates at various stages of an account's lifecycle: during registration, messaging, and in response to user reports and blocks. The platform employs a team of analysts to enhance these systems, evaluate complex cases, and continuously improve effectiveness over time, as mentioned in the report.
