WhatsApp, owned by Meta Platforms, has launched WhatsApp Channels in India and more than 150 other countries. This feature enables users to receive private updates from organizations, sports teams, artists, and thought leaders they follow.
Notable Indian celebrities and the cricket team have already launched their WhatsApp Channels. WhatsApp ensures the privacy of both administrators and followers, and the choice of whom to follow remains private.
To access WhatsApp Channels, users can go to the "Updates" tab on WhatsApp, where they can find and follow various Channels separately from personal chats.
“This platform provides me with an exciting opportunity to connect with those who are interested in various aspects of my life, be it my work in the film industry or my ventures in the business world, all of which I am deeply passionate about. WhatsApp Channels serves as a personalized newsletter through which I can share insights and updates with my dedicated audience, fans, and all those who have consistently shown their support throughout my journey," said Katrina Kaif.
WhatsApp has introduced several features to enhance user engagement on Channels, including an Enhanced Directory to help users discover channels matching their interests based on location and popularity. Users can also react to content using emojis, and there's an integrated forwarding function for sharing channel updates.
In the coming months, WhatsApp plans to enable the feature that allows anyone to create their own channel.
