As India witnesses the growth of 5G adoption, Reliance Jio, led by Mukesh Ambani, highlights the presence of 250 million mobile subscribers still using 2G feature phones that lack internet access, particularly in rural areas.
According to the company's statement, other telecom operators have raised the minimum price for feature phone users, exacerbating the digital gap. Previously priced at Rs 99 for 30 days, basic voice services now cost Rs 199, limiting access to expanding digital services.
Reliance Jio aims to bridge this significant divide with its new Jio Bharat Phone, available at an affordable price of Rs 999, catering to those unable to afford smartphones.
The Jio Bharat Phone empowers users by granting access to digital services such as JioCinema, JioSaavn, FM Radio, and enabling UPI payments through JioPay, effectively bridging the digital divide.
Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, emphasized the company's commitment to democratizing the internet and extending technological benefits to all Indians. The launch of the Jio Bharat Phone signifies another step in this direction, showcasing Jio's focus on delivering meaningful, real-life use cases and exceptional value to different user segments.
